Hi, I'm Zach, owner of MidCoast Minesweeper, a locally owned pooper scooper and dog waste removal service based in Durham, Maine. I started this business because I wanted to build something of my own, something I could be proud to put my name on.
Ginny, our mascot, is a rescue dog, a reminder that every dog deserves a clean, safe yard to enjoy, and every owner deserves peace of mind knowing it's taken care of.
I'm not trying to be the biggest pet waste removal company in the Midcoast area, just the most trusted one. That means showing up when I say I will, treating every yard like it's my own, and using eco-friendly disinfectant, yard deodorizer, and compostable bags, because protecting the environment matters as much to me as protecting my customers' peace of mind. Service & Scheduling
Q: What days do you offer service?
A: Right now, the route runs on Wednesdays — I'll expand to more days as the business grows.
Q: How does a cleanup actually work?
A: I show up on your scheduled day, walk your yard, bag everything up, and haul it away — no charge for the haul-away, that's just part of the service.
Q: What if it's raining, snowing, or the yard's a mess?
A: I come rain or shine. Weather doesn't stop the mess from piling up, so it doesn't stop me either. Severe weather (ice, lightning, tornadoes, that kind of thing) is the only exception, and I'll always reach out directly if a visit needs to move.
Q: Do I need to be home for a cleanup?
A: No. Just gate access — a code, a latch, whatever works. The service is built so you don't have to be home or plan your day around it — you're welcome to be there, but you never have to be.
Q: What if my dog is out in the yard during the visit?
A: By default, I'd like dogs secured indoors or in a separate area during the visit — for their safety and mine, unless we've arranged otherwise. That said, I like to meet a new dog before service starts, so on the first visit, let's get them acquainted with me. After that, if you're comfortable having them loose while I work, we can arrange that directly.
Q: Do you clean up all surfaces — mulch beds, gravel, wooded edges?
A: Yes — I check the mulch, the fence lines, and all the spots dogs actually use, not just the open lawn.
Q: Do you come on holidays?
A: Most holidays, yes — I'll still be there. Christmas and Thanksgiving are the exceptions; if your day falls on one of those, I'll make it up another day that same week. If I ever have to cancel a visit for some reason, you'll get a credit on the next month's billing cycle.
Pricing & Commitment
Q: How is pricing determined?
A: It's based on, how many dogs you have, yard size, and the add-ons selected.
Q: Do I have to sign a contract?
A: No. Month-to-month, cancel anytime in your customer portal. Cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing cycle.
Q: Is the first cleanup different from a regular visit?
A: Yes. Your first cleanup is priced by the five-gallon bucket. $50 for the first bucket and $25 for every bucket after that. This keeps pricing fair for both of us, since yards with more buildup naturally take more buckets to clear.
Q: How does billing work?
A: We charge the card on file on the 1st of each month, in advance, for that month's service. If you start mid month, your first invoice will be prorated.

A: Yes — MidCoast Minesweeper is fully insured.
Q: Where does the waste actually go?
A: Waste is bagged and disposed of through standard municipal channels.
Q: Do you disinfect your tools between yards?
A: Yes — tools and footwear get disinfected between every property with a veterinary-grade, eco-friendly disinfectant. Nothing gets tracked from one yard to the next.
Q: What if I'm not happy with a cleanup?
A: Let me know within 24 hours and I'll come back and make it right — no charge, no hassle. Your yard should look right, every visit.
Why This Matters
Q: Why should I bother removing dog waste at all?
A: It's not just an eyesore. Dog waste carries bacteria and parasites that can make people and other pets sick, and when it washes into storm drains, it ends up in local waterways. It's the one part of pet ownership nobody loves, which is exactly why I built a business around it.
Q: Can't it just decompose on its own, like fertilizer?
A: No — this is one of the most common misconceptions out there. Unlike cow or horse manure, dog waste is too acidic and doesn't break down the same way. Left on the lawn, it kills grass instead of feeding it, and it can take a year or more to fully decompose on its own.

A: MidCoast Minesweeper is committed to customer satisfaction. We do our part to protect your yard and the environment it belongs to equally. We never leave dog waste in your trash bins so you never have a mess to deal with or the smell all week while it sits in your bin.
Q: Are your products and services eco-friendly?
A: Yes — and it's something I take real pride in. From the compostable bags to the eco-friendly disinfectant I use between yards, and the eco-safe yard deodorizer, I try to keep every part of this business as low-impact as I can. If there's a way to do something that's easier on the environment, I'd rather do it that way, even when it costs me more to do it.
Q: What's with the compostable bags?
A: Most services still use petroleum-based plastic bags. I switched to Simply Bio — TÜV certified home compostable — because a cleaner yard shouldn't come at the environment's expense.
